On September 26th, 1893, the local newspaper Der Landbote wrote about the celebrations:

Artikel im Landboten zur Grundsteinlegung

On Monday, September 25th – which was the first day of sukkot – there was a really uplifting religious ceremony held in connection with the laying of the foundations to the new synagogue in Steinsfurt. First, three Hebrew psalms were recited in call-and-response by the cantor and the community. Their content was explained. The solemn lecture, held by the teacher Herr Hanauer, was on the first Book of Kings, chapter 8, vers 13. It was excellent both in style and content. The speaker explained the significance of the four walls, the door and the windows of the temple.

After the document  was read by Herr Samuel Weil and put into the foundation stone Herr Hanauer made the usual ceremonial hammer blows, adding good wishes to each blow. Chairman Herr Aron Weil and all the members of the Israelitic community joined in.

Two more psalms and a prayer followed. The newly introduced prayer for the Emperor, the Grandduke and the German fatherland closed the ceremony.

Herr Bürgermeister Braun, Herr Ratschreiber Würfel and many other local citizens took part in the celebrations that made an excellent impression on all participants. May the new temple progress to a happy completion!
